Tipright tip calculator app icon — restaurant tip and bill splitter with itemised split

Tip calculator and bill splitter, including the itemised kind

Two people splitting evenly takes five seconds. Six people where one had the lobster and two shared a bottle takes longer — and that is the case this handles properly.

The awkward bit is not the tip, it is the split

Calculating twenty per cent is easy. Working out that Sam had the £34 main and no wine, that three of you shared the starters, and that the service charge should fall proportionally — that is the bit that ends with someone doing sums on a napkin while the card machine waits.

Tipright covers both cases. The main screen handles the fast one: bill, tip, number of people, done. The itemised screen handles the slow one, and it is the reason to have the app rather than a calculator.

Two ways to split

Both modes give the same clarity at the end: the per-person figure, large enough to read across a table.

What it does not do

It does not require an account, it does not need a connection, and it does not interrupt the moment you are about to pay. A tip calculator is used for about fifteen seconds at a table, sometimes with the waiter standing there — so the design priority is that the number is readable and reached in as few taps as possible.

Everything is computed on the device. No bill data goes anywhere, which for a group-dinner app is less about privacy paranoia and more about the fact that there is no reason for it to.

When you will reach for it

The everyday case is a meal out with friends where the bill lands and nobody wants to be the one doing arithmetic. The itemised mode earns its place at the larger dinners — birthdays, work meals, anything where one person had three courses and another had a salad.

It also gets used abroad, where the tipping convention is unfamiliar and the currency is not yours, and by anyone who tips consistently on the pre-tax subtotal and is tired of doing that adjustment mentally every time.

Privacy

Bills, favourites and history stay on the phone; there is no account and no upload. The app works with no connection.

It is free and ad-supported. Tipping customs vary by country and the app does not tell you what to tip — it only calculates the amount you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Can it split a bill where everyone ordered different things? Yes. The itemised split screen lets you add each dish, assign it to a person and mark shared items; it then reports what each person owes, tip included.

Can I tip on the amount before tax? Yes. It can calculate the tip on the pre-tax subtotal and shows the effective tip rate that results.

Does it need an internet connection? No. Everything is calculated on the device and it works offline.

Does it remember my usual tip? Yes. Favourite tip settings can be saved, and a history of recent bills is kept on the phone.

Is it on iPhone as well as Android? Yes — it is on both the App Store and Google Play.
